Castelldefels is a small city located just outside of Barcelona, limited by mountains and the Mediterranean see. Beyond its center, there's a vast low-lying neighborhood dominated by single-family houses.
The clients' objective was to design a single-story house on a large plot, which is an atypical approach in Catalonia, where most houses have multiple floors due to limited plot sizes. Another requirement from the clients was a quick construction process for the building. As a result, the decision was made to use prefabricated steel frame elements for the construction.
The building's volume is a straightforward box with a gabled roof. The volume is intentionally altered in the layout and roof shape at specific points to emphasize the entrance and create a spacious area in the living room. In addition to the reduced construction time, the advantage of using prefabricated lightweight elements lies in their excellent thermal insulation capabilities compared to traditional brick-based construction methods.
