The old town of Barcelona is known for its narrow streets and ancient buildings. Often, you'll come across floor plans divided into many small rooms and a separate kitchen, which no longer align with the demands of contemporary living.
The main task in the renovation of this apartment was to unite a large living area with an open kitchen while transforming the former kitchen into a second bedroom. The existing windowless bedroom was merged with the corridor, creating a versatile studio space that can also serve as a guest room. .
Some of the old Barcelona-style floor tiles were recovered and reused, although the reinforcement of the structure forced the complete reconstruction of the whole floor. In the living room, new tiles were crafted in the traditional fashion to maintain the authentic aesthetic.
